Digits Wins 2026 CPA Practice Advisor Technology Innovation Award for AI-Native Accounting

Digits has been selected as a winner of the 2026 CPA Practice Advisor Technology Innovation Awards, recognizing the company’s AI-native approach to helping CPA firms, accounting firms and their small business clients operate more efficiently and profitably.

The annual awards recognize new technologies that advance the accounting profession through improved workflow, increased accessibility and other innovations. CPA Practice Advisor’s awards committee includes accounting and tax professionals, thought leaders and members of the publication’s Editorial Advisory Board.

“Accounting software has spent decades recording what happened after the work was done. We built Digits around a different idea: the ledger should actively do the work. This recognition from CPA Practice Advisor validates the shift we’re seeing across the profession from software that accountants operate to AI-native systems that work alongside them and continuously move the close forward,” said Jeff Seibert, Founder & CEO of Digits.

The Innovation

For decades, accounting software has primarily served as the system of record, while the actual work of booking, reconciling, scheduling, reviewing and reporting has remained with accountants and a collection of disconnected tools.

Digits takes a different approach. Its Agentic General Ledger™ (AGL®) is designed to perform accounting work directly within the system of record, moving the profession toward a continuously operating close.

Digits’ AI Bank Reconciliations automate the process of ingesting feeds, statements and ledger data, matching transactions and surfacing exceptions for review. Digits Schedules brings recurring accrual accounting workflows into the ledger, while expanded Payroll Connectivity automatically records wages, taxes and benefits as payroll runs.

These capabilities come together in Agentic Close, which extends automation across the accounting workflow, from collecting and booking financial activity to reconciling accounts, maintaining schedules, identifying items for review and preparing reports. Rather than repeatedly rebuilding the same close process for every client, firms can define their accounting policies and review standards and allow Digits to apply them continuously, escalating exceptions that require professional judgment.

The platform also extends beyond the accounting team. Ask Digits gives business owners answers grounded in their live financial data, while Digits’ mobile apps allow clients to approve bills, send invoices and capture receipts wherever they work. Its free MCP Server lets AI tools and agents read the ledger and, within the user’s permissions, make changes to it.

Results and Impact on the Industry

The impact is measurable.

One top 400 accounting firm serving more than 100 client accounting services (CAS) clients increased automated transaction handling from 75% to 98% in a single year. By year-end, the firm's team was touching just 2% of transactions during close.

These results reflect a broader shift in how accounting firms approach technology and capacity. Instead of using software simply to record completed work, firms can increasingly use AI-native systems to automate the repetitive work that surrounds the close and focus their teams on judgment, analysis and client advisory.

This month, Digits added locked periods and write access to its MCP Server, so AI agents can act in the ledger under the same permissions and period controls as the people who use it.
