What’s Next for Digits: From Real-Time to Verified Financials
We started Digits to fix the problem every business owner knows all too well: financials always arrive too late. In every company I’ve built, I’ve wanted financial visibility sooner because by the time reports arrived, the chance to act had already passed.
When we introduced the Autonomous General Ledger® earlier this year, real-time financials finally became a reality. Digits now books 95%+ of small business transactions as they happen, automatically.
Real-time Financials ≠ Verified Financials
Thousands of business owners now use real-time financials on Digits to run their companies. Yet verified financials—the version trusted by investors, lenders, and tax authorities—still lag behind. Verified financials enable companies to raise capital, secure loans, and file taxes with confidence. Today, they remain the result of painstaking, manual accounting work known as the month-end close.
Most business owners don’t realize there’s a difference. Until recently, the technology simply didn’t exist to separate the financials you use to run your business from the ones others use to evaluate it.
With Digits, that’s changed — your financials now come together in real-time, as each transaction occurs, while accountants still wait until the end of each month to cross the t’s and dot the i’s:
| Workflow | Digits | Accountants |
|---|---|---|
| Record Transactions | Real-time financials | Verified financials |
| Reconcile Bank Statements | Verified financials | |
| Update Schedules | Verified financials | |
| Review & Correct | Verified financials | |
| Analyze & Report | Real-time Financials | Verified financials |
Goodbye, Manual Close
The future is to converge both worlds. We believe verified financials should be just as immediate, delivered as soon as the month ends rather than weeks later. With today’s advances in AI, the tedium of the month-end close can finally become a thing of the past. Next week, we are launching a major feature that helps your accountant deliver verified, closed books faster than ever!
Looking ahead, however, even when AI removes all of the tedium, verified financials still depend on the professionals who interpret, validate, and stand behind the numbers
Introducing the Digits Accountant Directory
The Digits Accountant Directory showcases firms delivering verified financials with Digits — uniting automation, accuracy, and professional oversight to ensure every number stands up to scrutiny.
- Accountability and Trust: Boards, auditors, and regulators expect people, not technology, to take responsibility.
- Professional Judgment and Materiality: Every month involves subjective decisions your accountant is best equipped to determine: accruals, reserves, timing, capitalization.
- Interpretation and Context: Understanding why results changed, what matters, and how to communicate those outcomes requires specialized expertise.
The Directory is now live: Explore firms by service area, industry specialization, or location, or let Digits match you with a certified partner who fits your business.
Each firm represents the new standard for how businesses access live, reliable, decision-ready financials. Each firm has also completed Digits Certification, meeting the highest bar for verified accuracy in modern accounting.
Explore the Accountant DirectoryVerified financials mark a shift in what technology can do — but more importantly, in what professionals can deliver. That foundation of trust sets the stage for what comes next.
Autonomous General Ledger® → Agentic General Ledger™
To establish this trust, we’re renaming our Autonomous General Ledger® to the Agentic General Ledger™.
“Autonomous” suggests a fully self-driving system that could deliver results without professional input. That was critical for real-time financials, but isn’t desirable for verified financials. “Agentic” better reflects Digits’ vision for how accounting should be automated—through an AI-native ledger that works for you and your accountant.
